The firm settled a case for $5,000,000.00 for a passenger injured in a boating accident when he was thrown out of a boat and injured.

June 2018

Scott Bluestein attended a maritime continuing legal education seminar sponsored by the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute.

May 2018

Scott Bluestein was interviewed and quoted in the Lawyers Weekly, a nationwide publication for lawyers, about a case where crew members were sentenced to jail time and a ship company was fined for discharging oil into the ocean and not telling the U.S. Coast Guard the truth.

The firm settled a case for the insurance policy limits where someone stranded at sea after a vessel sank.

April 2018

A second article written by Scott Bluestein about cruise ship injuries, entitled when “Vacations Go Bad” was accepted for publication in the SC Lawyer, the magazine of the South Carolina Bar.

The firm also settled two large cases for a passenger being hurt on a deep sea fishing trip and a vessel crew member being hurt while disembarking from the vessel he was working on.

March 2018

Scott Bluestein gave a talk to the Sullivan’s Island Battery Gadsden Cultural Center and The National Park Service about Slave Ships, Property and Pirates-A Look at Charleston’s Maritime Law.

An article written by Scott Bluestein about personal injuries to maritime workers was accepted for publication in The Federal Lawyer, the magazine of the Federal Bar Association.

May 2016

A federal judge awarded two of the firm’s clients over $430,000 for an injury involving a boating accident.

Mr. Bluestein successfully won a case in federal court for clients who were hurt in a boating accident in Charleston and awarded over $464,000.

Scott Bluestein was interviewed twice on the nationally syndicated radio talk show “America Now with Andy Dean” about the salvage of sunken treasure from the S.S. Central America off of the coast of South Carolina and the possible discovery of Christopher Columbus’ flag ship, the Santa Maria. Andy Deen discusses politics, business, entertainment on the Premiere Radio Networks.

A South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commissioner ruled in favor of a Bluestein Law Firm, P.A., client that concurrent jurisdiction existed between the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act and the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act for a claimant injured on a vessel in Charleston Harbor.

Scott Bluestein appeared on the weekly Myrtle Beach TV show, “Legal Access,” about the unique aspects of maritime law as compared to land-based law. This has been the fourth time he has appeared on “Legal Access.”

April 2014

A federal judge ruled in favor of a Bluestein Law Firm, P.A., client on a personal jurisdictional issue that permitted a wrongful death action against a Jones Act employer to be tried in a federal court in South Carolina.

Scott Bluestein was interviewed for an article in South Carolina Lawyer’s Weekly about the general maritime law and the court’s ruling permitting the maritime wrongful death action to remain in a South Carolina federal court.

Mr. Bluestein spoke about maritime law to the Maritime Law Society at the Charleston School of Law.

Secured a large settlement for a passenger injured during a collision between two vessels and for a vessel owner.

March 2014

Scott Bluestein spoke at Loyola University Annual Longshore Continuing Legal Education Conference in New Orleans about the adoption of new procedural rules for Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, Defense Base Act and other cases before the Administrative Law Judges.

We were able to successfully obtain larger recoveries for a Jones Act seamen, injured claimants under the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act and Longshore and Defense Base Act.

Bluestein Law Firm, P.A., recovered over $700,000 for its clients in workers’ compensation ceases.

August to October 2013

S. Scott Bluestein was selected as an adjunct professor of law at the Charleston School of Law, where he teaches the maritime personal injury and death class to upper level law students seeking their Master of Law in admiralty. These students have already graduated law school.
